The Story

Mohd Nasim is a traditional Banarasi textile artisan based in Kacchi Bagh, Jaitpura, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He comes from a family with a long-standing legacy of weaving, with the craft being passed down through generations. This inherited knowledge has made traditional weaving techniques, craftsmanship and an appreciation for fine textiles an integral part of his artistic practice.

Working from the rich textile tradition of Banaras, Mohd Nasim and his family create sarees, dupattas and other traditional woven textiles. Each piece reflects the patience, precision and skill required to transform fine threads into intricate patterns and richly detailed fabrics.

Banarasi weaving is renowned for its elegant motifs, detailed patterns and the distinctive richness of silk and zari work. Floral elements, paisleys, vines and other traditional Indian motifs are carefully incorporated into the fabric, giving each textile its characteristic beauty and timeless appeal.
For Mohd Nasim, weaving is more than a profession—it is a family tradition and a craft that connects generations. By continuing the work inherited from his ancestors, he contributes to preserving the cultural and textile heritage of Banaras while bringing this traditional craftsmanship to contemporary audiences.

His work represents the dedication of traditional Indian artisans whose skills and knowledge continue to keep India's handloom heritage alive, one carefully woven textile at a time.
